Good news for owners of fire damaged property in California. County assessors have offered owners of fire damaged property deferred payments on their first tax instalments (Due December 10th), and reassessment on the taxable value of their property. The announcement affects homeowners and businesses that have incurred at least $10,000 dollars in property damage in the recent fires.
Owners of properties that have been destroyed will only be liable for taxes on their land. Those affected are asked to file a Calamity Application with their local county assessors office so that the reassessments can get underway as soon as possible.
